How to Create a Template

Create a pass template by duplicating an existing one, importing a .pttwc file, starting from the pre-built library, or using AI.

Overview

Creating a pass template is simple and quick. To do this, go to the Template section under the Wallet tab and click on "Create a new template"

How to create a template
Check that the Template section is open under the Wallet tab before clicking Create a new template.

Several options are available to create a template.

The creation dialog lists every starting point: duplicate, import, pre-built library, and AI.

Duplicate a template

Clicking "duplicate" creates a new template based on an existing one. It retrieves that template's configuration, and only the name differs. The new template can then be modified.

First, choose the existing template to duplicate from the list, then click "ok".

Duplicate a template
Verify the template selected in the list is the one to duplicate.

Choose a new name to create a new template based on the one selected in the list and click on "confirm template".

Duplicate a template (2)
Confirm that the new name differs from every existing template name before confirming.

Import a template file

A new template can also be created by importing the configuration of an existing template. For example, a template built in the staging environment can be exported there and imported into production. ⚠️ This only works with a template file from The Wallet Crew.

First select the template to export, click on the three dots on the right of the template, and choose export configuration. A pttwc file is then downloaded.

Import a template file
The export configuration action sits in the three-dot menu on the template row.

Go back to the creation of a template by clicking on "Create a new template" and choose "Import".

Import a template file (2)
Select Import in the creation dialog.

Click on "Upload (template.pttwc)" and select the pttwc file just downloaded.

Import a template file (3)
Confirm the uploaded file is the .pttwc file exported from The Wallet Crew.

Choose a new name to create a new template based on the imported file, then click on "confirm template".

Import a template file (4)
Check the name field before confirming, so an existing template is not replaced.

⚠️ Choosing a template name that already exists in the template list overwrites the existing template, and linked passes will update on their next update. To proceed, click on "I confirm overwrite".

Use a pre-built template

The Wallet Crew maintains a centralized template library that covers common use cases. A template created from a pre-built one starts with the same configuration as the pre-built template (colors, images, fields), and that configuration can be kept as is or modified. To access this library, click on "Create a new template", then select "Use a pre-built".

Use a pre-built template
Select Use a pre-built to open the template library.

The library offers customer card, event ticket, generic, gift cards, and offer templates. Use Type of pass to pick the right starting point for the use case.

Before selecting a pre-built template, the Apple and the Google version can both be previewed.

Use a pre-built template (2)
Compare the Apple and Google previews before committing to a pre-built template.

Once the choice is made, select the pre-built template by clicking on "Use this template".

Use a pre-built template (3)
Use this template confirms the selected pre-built template.

Choose a new name to create a new template based on the pre-built one and click on "confirm template".

Use a pre-built template (4)
Name the new template before confirming.

⚠️ Choosing a template name that already exists in the template list overwrites the existing template, and linked passes will update on their next update. To proceed, click on "I confirm overwrite".

The same overwrite confirmation appears for a template created from the library.

Start with AI

The Wallet Crew also offers an AI template designer for finding inspiration and ideas before creating a new template. A few things to know before using this tool:

  • This tool is in beta mode, which means that it's brand new and may contain errors

  • A Google account is required to access this feature

  • A template created in the template designer cannot be exported and imported on The Wallet Crew

  • The template designer is for now only in French

To use it, click on "Create a new template", then select "Start with AI".

Start with AI opens the beta template designer.

What's next?

The new template is now created. To modify it, find the recently created template in the list of templates. To access the Apple version, click on the corresponding logo.

From this interface, the loyalty card can be customized as needed:

  • Logo and colors of the company

  • Customer’s name

  • Primary, secondary fields

  • Backfields information

  • Barcode for identification at the checkout

  • Strip

And much more.

To customize the Android version, simply switch by clicking on "Google". Just like the Apple version, the fields and design of the pass template can be customized there.
